The heraldic eagle of the United States features on the reverse of Pre-33 $5 Liberty Gold Half Eagles. The heraldic eagle is shown supporting the US national shield while clutching the olive branch of peace and the arrows of war. The coins dated 1838 to 1865 have no national motto, while coins dated 1866 to 1899 have an added banner with “In God We Trust” inscribed.
