For the first time in the brief American Palladium Eagle Series, the US Mint offers a reverse-proof version of the coin. This third release marks the third different option in the series. The 2017 coins were offered only as a Brilliant Uncirculated specimen, with the 2018 coin released only as a proof specimen. Another notable feature of the 2019 release is the mintage figure. With 30,000 coins available, the US Mint doubled the mintage of the previous two releases.
On the obverse of 2019-W American Palladium Eagle Reverse Proof Coins is the left-profile portrait of Liberty created in 1916 by Adolph A. Weinman. This design originally featured on the circulation dime from 1916 to 1945 and was known as the Mercury Dime because of Liberty’s resemblance to the Roman messenger god Mercury with her winged Phrygian cap.
The reverse design on 2019 American Palladium Eagle Coins also comes from Weinman. He created this design in 1907 for use on the American Institute of Architects gold medal. It depicts an American bald eagle on a cliff edge as it clutches a branch in its talons and beak. The reverse-proof finish of the coins delivers frosted background fields with brilliantly mirrored design elements.
