Description

2014 British Silver Lunar Year of the Horse Monster Box (500 Coins, BU)

THIS COIN IS THE FIRST IN THE NEW ROYAL MINT LUNAR SERIES, AND FEATURES A LIMITED MINTAGE OF ONLY 300,000 COINS TOTAL. THIS PRODUCT IS IN BRAND NEW CONDITION, AND SHIPS IN MINT SEALED MONSTER BOXES.

The British Year of the Horse Lunar Silver Coin was released by the Royal Mint in 2014 to celebrate the Chinese Lunar Year. Each coin has been minted with 1 troy ounce of .999 pure silver and is also assigned a legal tender face value of £2 GBP. This monster box contains 25 mint-sealed tubes of 20 coins for a total of 500 troy ounces of pure silver (500 1 oz coins). Each coin in the monster box will be in brilliant uncirculated condition and sealed in its original packaging just as we receive them from the Royal Mint.

At the center of the coin’s obverse is a large image of the Lunar Year celebrant, the horse. In this scene, the animal’s head is turned to the right as it gallops over what appears to be a small hill. Above the horse are markings for the calendar year as well as the lunar year. This information reads “Year of the Horse ♦ 2014.” Below this information, in a much smaller font, is the coin’s weight and purity specifications which reads: “1 oz Fine Silver 999.” The Chinese Character for “Horse” is also marked to the right of the coin, just behind the animal.

As is featured on many of the Royal Mints coinage, the reverse side includes Ian Rank-Broadley’s infamous portrait of Queen Elizabeth II in side profile. In this image, the right-facing Queen is wearing one of her jewel-studded tiaras. Rank-Broadley’s initials are stamped just below the queen’s neck as IRB. Surrounding the Queen is her name, the Latin phrase DG REG FID DEF, and the coin’s legal tender value.
