Description
2014 1 Kilo Maple Leaf Forever $250 Canadian Silver Coin (BU)
Limited mintage of 600 coins!
In 2014, the Royal Canadian Mint released its 1 Kilo Maple Leaf Forever $250 Canadian Silver Coin. With a limited mintage of only 600 pieces, this special edition coin is one of the rarest Maple Leaf Coins ever released by the prestigious mint. It is also one of the largest, with a diameter of 4 inches and an impressive weight of 1 kilogram. (Only two other pieces of Canadian currency were ever minted at that weight or dimension.) Each Maple Leaf Forever coin is composed from 99.99% pure silver, giving it a present face value of $250 dollars. All coins are guaranteed to arrive in brand new uncirculated condition and encased in a lined, wooden keepsake box for protection. An official Royal Canadian Mint commemorative package is also provided for display purposes.
Coin Highlights:
- Contains 1 kilo (32.15 oz) of .9999 pure silver.
- Minted by the Royal Canadian Mint.
- Features a unique take on the popular Maple Leaf Design.
Equally as impressive as its rare mintage is the coin’s artwork which utilizes a number of innovative design techniques. The front image displays a pair of maple leaves with each one hand painted in a different color. The unique paint enamel used for this coin offers a translucent quality that enables collectors to see the detailed engraving behind it, much like a piece of stained glass. Another new technique that was incorporated into the design was the use of 3 distinct proof finishes to create a sense of depth and richness. These contrasting textures are particularly evident in the rays of sunlight emanating behind the maple leaves. Encircling this stunning design is a border with the name “Canada” inscribed across the top and the coin’s purity and weight printed at the bottom.
In contrast to its front, the reverse side adheres to a more traditional motif for its portrait of Elizabeth II. This conventional approach is further emphasized by the inscription surrounding her effigy. Included in this inscription are her name, the coin’s denomination, its mintage year and the Latin phrase, “D.G. Regina.”
