Description
1993-P 1/2 oz Proof American Gold Eagle Coin PCGS PR70 DCAM
The American Gold Eagle coin was a game–changer when it was introduced by the United States Mint. Since 1837, all gold coins produced at the United States Mint featured a purity of .900 fineness. When the American Gold Eagle was introduced in 1986, it was the first coin in nearly 150 years to feature .999 pure gold. Right now, you have the chance to purchase a 1993–P ½ oz Proof American Gold Eagle Coin.

American Gold Eagle coins were first introduced in 1986 in both bullion and proof versions, much like its silver counterpart. However, the American Gold Eagle is struck in a total of four weights each year, unlike the silver version of the coin. While the gold bullion coins had all four weights available the first year, the ½ oz was the first fractional weight coin introduced in proof in 1987.
These particular Proof American Gold Eagles are unique because they are the last ½ oz coins to be struck at the Philadelphia Mint. The US Mint shifted production of the ½ oz coins over time from the Philadelphia Mint (1987-1993) to the West Point Mint, where production continues today.
Each 1993-P ½ oz Proof American Gold Eagle in this product listing has a perfect proof grade of PR70 courtesy of the PCGS. Coins in perfect condition feature their full, original luster, and no detracting flaws of any kind. Deep-cameo is a term that describes the finish of the coin, which in this case includes a strong, frosted design overlaying a deeply-mirrored, clear background.
On the reverse side is Augustus Saint-Gaudens’ depiction of Lady Liberty, which was first created in 1907. The obverse bears Miley Busiek’s family of nesting bald eagles, created specifically for these coins in 1986.
