Description

1885-CC Morgan Silver Dollar Coin PCGS MS67

Some of the most soughtafter Morgan Silver Dollars are those from the Carson City Mint. The coins struck in this series by the Carson City Mint were the lowest minted in the series and were struck in the fewest years. Only the Denver Mint has fewer date marks available, with the 1921 coin being its only contribution. Certified versions of Morgan Silver Dollars with higher grades on the scale are even harder to find. Now, 1885CC Morgan Silver Dollar Coins are available with a PCGS certification for you to purchase.

The Carson City Mint’s primary purpose was to strike silver coins for the United States Mint. It was opened in the state of Nevada specifically to take advantage of the large, local sources of silver that had been discovered in the area in the 1870s. One of its primary roles included striking Morgan Silver Dollars.

Although the Carson City Mint was built for the specific purpose of producing silver coins, its production of Morgan Silver Dollars was low compared to that of the Philadelphia, San Francisco, and New Orleans Mints. While these locations issued coins regularly throughout the period of 1878 to 1904, the Carson City Mint issued the coins only from 1878 to 1885 and 1889 to 1893.

Obverse design elements on the 1885-CC Morgan Silver Dollar Coins include an effigy of Lady Liberty. George T. Morgan created this effigy of Liberty in 1878 for the release of this coin. Anna Willess Williams sat through four portrait sessions with him to serve as inspiration for his image of Liberty.

Reverse visuals on the 1885-CC Morgan Silver Dollar depict the heraldic eagle of the United States. This design showcases a bald eagle in front-facing relief with the arrows of war and the olive branch of peace in its talons.

These 1885-CC Morgan Silver Dollar Coins are available to you for purchase in Mint State 67 condition. Coins in this condition showcase the original luster for the date with three or four minuscule contact marks, only one or two of which will be in the primary focal fields. The coins may also have one or two small hairlines, but these will be not visible without the aid of magnification.
