Victory is the most prominent of the Queen’s Virtues. The concept of the Queen’s Virtues arose during the reign of Queen Victoria, the great-grandmother to Britain’s current monarch, Queen Elizabeth II. After Queen Victoria passed, her son, King Edward VII, suggested a memorial to his mother be erected in the heart of London. That monument was not completed until 1924, but at the heart of the monument was a towering statue of the female allegory of Victory.
Queen Elizabeth II features on the obverse side of 2021 1 oz Platinum Queen’s Virtues Victory Coins. The effigy of the Queen used on these coins is the third-generation British design created in 1985 by Raphael Maklouf. This design is considered one of the most regal portraits of the Queen, with the designer stating that it was created to capture the long-standing grandeur of the monarch. The portrait includes a depiction of the George IV State Diadem Crown on the head of Her Majesty.
The female allegory known as Victory is found in the reverse design of 2021 1 oz St. Helena Platinum Victory Coins. The statue of Victory is shown in a three-quarter profile relief with her right hand raised toward the sky as her left hand clutches a palm branch, a symbol of victory and peace.
