Chinese Silver Panda coins debuted in 1983 and were available until 1985 as proof silver coins. No coins were issued in 1986 and when the coins returned in 1987, it was still just a proof collection available to collectors. It wasn’t until 1989 that the Chinese Mint made a 1 Troy oz .999 pure silver coins available in a Brilliant Uncirculated version.

The obverse of the 1 Kilo Proof Chinese Silver Panda Coin includes a depiction of the Giant Panda. The image of the Giant Panda is redesigned on the obverse of the Silver Panda coin each year. The only release in the series that has used a repeat design was the 2002 coin which saw the 2001 design used again.

On the reverse side of 1 Kilo Proof Chinese Silver Panda Coins is an image of the Hall of Prayer for Abundant Harvests. This building has featured on the reverse of Chinese Silver Pandas and obverse of Chinese Gold Pandas since the debut of the series in 1983 and 1982, respectively. It is the largest structure in the Temple of Heaven Complex.
