Congress authorized the American Gold Eagle and American Silver Eagle bullion coins through two different pieces of legislation in 1985. One year later, the coins were in production at the United States Mint. With Congress authorizing the American Palladium Eagle in 2010, the coins didn’t go into production until the release of these 2017 American Palladium Eagles as a bullion specimen.
All of the 2017 1 oz American Palladium Eagle Coins in this product listing earned perfect certifications from the PCGS. A Mint State 70 coin has full, original mint luster and bears no detracting flaws of any kind. These coins also come with a First Strike designation, indicating the coins were received by the PCGS for certification within the first 30 days following release by the United States Mint.
Winged Liberty is depicted on the 2017 1 oz American Palladium Eagle Coin’s obverse field. The image of Winged Liberty was created in 1916 by Adolph A. Weinman for the US Mint and it was used on the US dime from 1916 to 1945. The image of Winged Liberty includes a left-profile bust of Liberty wearing a winged Phrygian cap. The image reminded many Americans of the Roman messenger god Mercury, hence the common usage of the term “Mercury Dime” when referring to the coins in circulation.
An American bald eagle is featured on the reverse side of 2017 American Palladium Eagle coins. This depiction of the eagle comes from the 1907 American Institute of Architect’s gold medal and depicts the American bald eagle on the edge of a cliff as it clutches a small sapling.
