Federal Reserve Bank Notes were first issued in 1915 in the denominations of $5, $10, and $20. The designs found on the notes largely matched those of the National Bank Notes already in circulation in the US at that time. These $2 Federal Reserve Bank Notes come from the 1918 Series, an emergency issue that introduced $1, $2, and $50 notes.
All of these 1918 $2 Federal Reserve Bank Notes are available to you in Very Fine condition. Notes in this condition will showcase numerous fold lines, moderate signs of use in circulation, and light-to-mild soiling. The very best notes of this range will have no more than 10 fold lines. Each note comes in a plastic currency sleeve.
Please note that we cannot guarantee the exact condition of any given note other than to say all are Very Fine notes. There is an acceptable range of variation in this grade, but the notes are all free of serious detractions. If you buy multiples, you may notice minor differences in the flaws on each note or receive notes that all have the same flaws. Additionally, the obverse of the notes has the name of a specific branch bank that issued the notes in the Federal Reserve System. These names could match or vary as well.
On the obverse of 1918 $2 Federal Reserve Bank Notes is an effigy of President Thomas Jefferson. The center of the field has a large, printed notation of the specific branch bank that backed the note. As an example, you could get a note with the printed name of “The Federal Reserve Bank of New York” or the “Federal Reserve Bank of Boston.”
The reverse side of 1918 $2 Federal Reserve Bank Notes features an image of a New York Class battleship of the United States Navy. The New York Class was commissioned in 1911 as a dreadnaught-style battleship and only saw two vessels built, the NEW YORK and TEXAS.
