1883-CC Morgan Silver Dollars were part of the 6th-annual issue of the Morgan Dollar, both in general and at the Carson City Mint. The Carson City Mint would go on to issue Morgan Silver Dollar again in 1884 and 1885, before temporarily pausing production of the coins from 1886 to 1888.
Obverse imagery on 1883-CC Morgan Dollars includes the left-profile relief of Lady Liberty. Designed in 1878 by George T. Morgan, this design shows Liberty’s bust in left-profile relief with a Phrygian cap on her, and both the coronet and laurel wreath in her hair. The design field includes 13 stars along the bottom edge of the design field.
Reverse designs on 1883-CC Morgan Silver Dollars feature George T. Morgan’s version of the heraldic eagle of the United States. In this design, the front-facing bald eagle is shown with the arrows of war and the olive branch of peace in its talons. The bird is framed by an oak-and-laurel wreath and the CC mint mark from Carson City is included on this side beneath the bow at the center of the wreath.
