The final coin design issued by the United States Mint during the era of 90% silver coining was the Kennedy Half Dollar. The US Mint ended the use of silver in all of its circulation coins starting in 1965, making 1964 date marks in the dime, quarter, and half dollar the final ones from the mint with actual silver content. Right now, 1964 90% Silver Kennedy Half Dollars are available to purchase online in $100 Face Value bags.

Each of the 90% Silver Kennedy Half Dollar $100 Face Value bags in this product listing comes with coins in Brilliant Uncirculated condition. The plastic bag is secured with a zip-tie and includes a total of 200 individual US half dollars. The coins add up to a total of $100 (USD) and feature the impressive portrait of President John F. Kennedy. All of the coins in this bag have a 1964 date mark, the only year in which Kennedy Half Dollars were issued with 90% silver.

The adoption of President John F. Kennedy’s bust on the US half dollar was one of the quickest turnarounds in American coining history. After the president was assassinated in November 1963, a new design for the half dollar was approved by January 1964 and initial production had specimens ready for release into circulation by March 1964.

On the obverse of 1964 90% Silver Kennedy Half Dollar coins is a depiction of President John F. Kennedy in left-profile relief. This image of Kennedy was developed in 1962 by Gilroy Roberts, the 9th Chief Engraver of the United States Mint who held the position from 1948 until 1964.

The reverse face of 1964 90% Silver Kennedy Half Dollars comes with a modified version of the presidential seal. Based on the heraldic eagle, this image includes an American bald eagle with wings and legs spread out as the US national shield rests on its chest. One set of talons clutches an olive branch while the other clutches arrows. This design was created by Frank Gasparro, the 10th Chief Engraver of the United States Mint who succeeded Roberts in early 1965 and served until early 1981.
